1820-1869 Alabama Slave Holders

A need for this project was realized when researchers searching for family members who were related to the individuals listed on the 1870 Bullock County census discovered that slaves never existed in Bullock County, Alabama because the county wasn’t created until after Emancipation (1865). With that in mind, researchers realized when conducting searching for slaves prior to 1870, they needed to search in neighboring counties with the understanding that their findings would cross other neighboring counties. The largest areas of Bullock, Alabama was created out of Pike and Macon County, Alabama so initial focus of our research began in these counties. The surnames listed below are “to date” the list of surnames that had slaves prior to 1870 in Pike County, Alabama.
